3690: A Journal of First-Year Student Research Writing

3690 is an online journal that features engaging research writing from first-year students at St. John Fisher University. The journal’s premise is that working carefully with the ideas of others—in print and in conversation—is a crucial component of academic writing, and that undergraduates who have participated successfully in this work should have opportunities to share it with a broader audience. The journal will be useful for students entering St. John Fisher University who are curious about what academic writing entails, for incoming 199 students, and for writing faculty who refer to sample student essays when teaching the discipline-specific, challenging work of research writing.

Starting in 2023, 3690 and The Review have combined to form Soaring: A Journal of Undergraduate Research. New submissions now being accepted!

QueerShots

Welcome to QueerShots, the annual newsletter published by the students of Queer(ing) Film in the Women and Gender Studies Department of St. John Fisher University. With each issue, we will focus on queer and feminist film and the intersectional issues of gender, sex, sexuality, race, class, and ability that these films draw to our attention, particularly as they impact the LGBTQIA+ community here at Fisher, in Rochester, New York, and beyond. We will also report directly from the Image Out Film Festival, which since 1993, has been bringing the best new LGBTQIA+ cinema to Rochester every October. It is our hope that this newsletter will not only serve to expose more and more people to the important work being done by LGBTQIA+ filmmakers all over the world, but also to increase awareness and coalition among all communities who seek greater freedom and expression of who they are as human beings.
