Abstract
Our synthesis project emerged from the Cardinal Experience course, which challenged us to explore a topic centered on connecting people to nature. We chose food as our lens, recognizing its everyday relevance and deep ties to both human and environmental systems. Through this focus, we examined four key building blocks: food insecurity, sustainability and stewardship, community gardens, and the cultural and social dimensions of food. Each of these elements reveals a different pathway through which people can reconnect with natural systems—whether by understanding where food comes from, participating in its cultivation, or appreciating its role in cultural identity and community cohesion. As our final deliverable, we developed a comprehensive informational brochure that brings these themes together, illustrating how they intersect and collectively support a stronger, more meaningful connection between people and nature.
