Abstract
Suicide is a major public health issue and the VA’s top clinical priority (National Strategy for Preventing Veteran Suicide 2018-2028). When a High Risk for Suicide Patient Flag (HRS-PF) is entered, a Safety Plan (SP) must be completed within 7 days. Overdose, including with prescription medications, is the second most common means of suicide. Miller et al. (2020) identified antidepressants and antidiabetics as means, highlighting a gap for pharmacist involvement in SPs and pharmacotherapy management. The purpose of this scoping review was to synthesize the evidence of effectiveness of common suicide means interventions in the Department of Veterans Affairs.
