Abstract

Burns can have detrimental effects on the lives of those who suffer them due to the pain they cause. The pain from burns is some of the most excruciating that is experienced in clinical practice. Inadequate pain control has such detrimental effects on the recovering health of burn patients. Unfortunately, it continues to be a challenge for health care workers to effectively treat the excruciating pain in these patients. This leads to fear and refusal to complete rehabilitative therapies, and therefore declined function. Evidence shows that VR is extremely effective in controlling pain and increasing focus and function performance in restorative therapies. All in all, pain control is a pivotal problem in burn care that continues to be inadequate. The combined effectiveness of VR and the profound need for more pain control for burn patients demands its implementation into clinical practice.
