Abstract

This project highlights participation in the CFA Institute Research Challenge, hosted by the CFA Society, as part of Honors Keystone credits at St. John Fisher University. Competing as "Wall Street Wannabeez," the team conducted an in-depth equity research analysis of Graham Corporation (NYSE: GHM), a niche engineering and manufacturing firm serving the defense, space, and energy markets. The experience required extensive research, collaboration, and critical thinking, pushing students to apply classroom knowledge in a real-world, high-stakes environment. Months of teamwork were dedicated to financial modeling, industry analysis, and valuation, with as much learning derived from the collaborative process as from the subject matter itself. The result was a comprehensive investment report and presentation culminating in a SELL recommendation on GHM. The CFA Research Challenge stands as one of the most demanding and rewarding academic experiences, offering students a genuine glimpse into the world of professional equity research.
