Abstract
This project examines firm productivity in the North and South of the United States during the 1850s, a period when the two regions had very different economic structures. We focus on how factors such as material value, labor, wages, capital, and power sources may have influenced production value. The presentation begins with historical background and a review of relevant literature, then introduces the data and key variables used in the analysis. We use a regression model to explore the relationships between these inputs and firm productivity, with a focus on regional differences between the North and South.
