Abstract
Hacking is becoming one of the most important skills of the 21st century, due to society’s huge investment in the Internet. In modern times, being a participant in cyberspace is a requirement to live within society. We have come to a point of dependency to the World Wide Web, where the amount of organizations storing information in a physical manner is minimal. Some of the most important types of institutions are based fully remote, including educational, financial, and healthcare organizations who store the information which forms our social identities. The point is, that as the world continues to evolve and technology keeps advancing, the dependency will continue to grow, and with it the need for ethical individuals with the skills to protect our personal data and assets from cyber criminals. This project covers modern techniques used by ethical hackers to take on this mission, and looks to investigate new ways in which to improve our digital security. The study will explore through a variety of the most important topics in the field, including pentesting, which is the work of finding weaknesses in a system, malware, social engineering, and exploring advanced attack vectors. By conducting this research, I seek to provide new insights into security risks, and developing the skills and knowledge required to perform the duties of an ethical hacker in real world environments. The expected contribution is to create a pathway for other students to follow in the years to come. Due to the evolutionary nature of technologies and the cybersecurity sector, we have a need to maintain a continuous growth of proficiency and capabilities.
