Abstract
During the last century, numerous chronic diseases have become manageable with medication therapy. Reliance on medication for diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure, and chronic pain, though effective when taken correctly, has become extremely complicated. Because of this, patients have difficulty self-managing to the point that they are able to take medication correctly a mere fifty-percent of the time.1 Treatment of acute and chronic pain with opioids, is clearly an area that is prone to medication mismanagement and abuse. As a result, the role of the pharmacist is evolving from that of a medicine provider to a patient.
