Abstract

This essay explores the transformative power of community for women of color navigating the challenges of higher education. Reflecting on personal experiences, it highlights the intersectionality of being both a woman and a member of a minority group in the U.S. Central to overcoming these obstacles is the support of a peer community, which fosters "community healing", a space for shared struggles, validation, and empowerment. The essay calls for intentional efforts to build inclusive communities, mentorship programs, and safe spaces that provide solidarity. It advocates for increased representation at all levels of the higher education journey, viewing it as an opportunity to empower future generations for success in academia and beyond.
