Abstract
One of the most interesting things I learned at my internship this semester in financial planning was the importance of understanding what “people style” each of your clients are. Knowing their “people style” and their psychological thinking is important for you in order to determine how you need to talk to and work with that specific client. Throughout the beginning of my internship my supervisor had me read, “People Styles at Work,” with one of the former CEO’s of the company. They wanted me to read this and have a significant understanding of the importance of knowing how people think and react to events that occur before I started sitting in on the client meetings. When I began to sit in on the client meetings it was so easy for me to determine what type of “people style” each client was and I was able to discuss with the financial advisors how I thought that person would react to certain events that could occur. This book opened my eyes to the importance of psychology in the world of finance and I think this is something that should be taught to all students majoring in finance and accounting.
