Abstract
The rapid rise of ghost guns, privately manufactured and largely untraceable firearms, and their impact on gun violence in the United States. It highlights how advancements in technology, such as 3D printing, have made these weapons inexpensive and accessible without background checks or regulation. The project connects the increase in ghost guns to broader public safety risks, including difficulties in criminal investigations, increased potential for violent crime, and disproportionate impacts on youth and communities like Rochester, New York. Drawing on data from agencies such as the ATF and CDC, the presentation also explores correlations between gun law strength and violence rates. Finally, it proposes a range of legislative and enforcement solutions, including stricter regulations on firearm components, enhanced background checks, oversight of 3D printing technology, and harsher penalties for illegal possession and distribution.
