In order to understand cultures other than our own, we must overcome preconceived ideas and stereotypes. The concepts used in this chapter, based on modern anthropological and sociological definitions, are designed to provide an objective approach to comprehending intuitive concepts such as ethnicity, race, class, and nationality.
