Abstract
In lieu of an abstract, below is the essay's first paragraph.
"You're falling fast, aren't you... fast through thin air. Thin, cold air. Of course, you wouldn't know it. You wouldn't feel the cold while you're falling; doing what it is that you do. You're numb to it. Hard to believe, how something so pervasive, destructive and debilitating can consume the spirit of your receptors, replacing reaction and reason with that damned numbness - that plain old nothing."
