Abstract
In lieu of an abstract, below is the essay's first paragraph.
“She was standing by the river looking at the stepping stones and remembering each one. Today, a day she couldn’t have imagined living through, she found herself drawn to this spot. Conversations sputtered and flowed as the water swept around the stones. If she listened closely, maybe they would come to her.”
